The Riverkeeper
Took the James Riverkeeper on another photo mission, this time to the lower Appamattox River, where he wanted to photograph some nasty stuff spilling into the river.
He checked out the crud. I checked out the landscape and was surprised
by how wild and unspoiled the river looks from above, even though it flows
through a heavily populated area. There must be 10 or 15 miles where
it's flowing north from Petersburg toward Richmond, and there's almost
nothing there but water and trees. Then it turns east and joins the
Janes at Hopewell, where the air smells foul from the chemical plants.
